Pierre invited to Domotex

Pierre Antoine, owner and creative force behind Fibre Designs Carpet Gallery in De Waterkant, Cape Town, is the first South African to be invited to design and present a contemporary floorware range at the annual Domotex Trade Fair.

Antoine will present a range of eight, high-density woven rugs, all inspired by nature. “These are all Western-friendly, Oriental-inspired designs,” says Antoine. “I combine luxurious and intricate silk yarn with wool to give a natural yet comfortable feel to the range.”

Antoine grew up among carpets. It was his parents’ travels to Iran to learn more about the culture and the age-old craft of hand-woven carpets that sparked his interest in this ancient craft.

His mother, Yvonne Antoine, a Flemish-speaking Belgian, decided to set up shop in Cape Town in 1980 and established Antoine Persian Carpet Restoration Studio from which the current Fibre Designs studio grew.

The Carpet Design Awards highlights and rewards the talent and creativity of the handmade carpet industry. A jury comprising top-ranking professionals selects the winners. The visiting public also selects their own winner.

Hosted in Hanover, Germany, from 12-15 January 2008, the fair is the biggest global floorware show and features traditional as well as super high-tech rugs.

Each year floorware professionals visit the show to view the latest offerings and trends from 1 400 exhibitors worldwide. The fair offers a comprehensive support program with a number of special events and presentations.

Fibre Designs offers a range of innovative collections and also allows visitors to design their own floorware. To set up a consultation, contact the Fibre Designs studio at 021 418 1054 or email info@fibredesigns.co.za.
